Why a daily puzzle sticks
An unlimited game asks a hard question every time you open it: how long are you going to play? A daily puzzle asks an easier one: have you done today's yet? That tiny reframe is the whole trick. There's one puzzle, it takes a few minutes, and when it's done you are — genuinely, guilt-free — finished. Crossword pages discovered this, then the five-letter guessing games made it a morning ritual for millions: a puzzle with an ending becomes a habit, where a puzzle without one becomes a time sink you eventually avoid.
The shared grid matters just as much as the schedule. Because everyone gets the identical puzzle, your time means something next to someone else's. "Four minutes twelve" is just a number until your sister posts three-fifty.
How this daily works
There's no server dealing out puzzles at midnight. Today's date is fed through the same seeded generator that powers our random word search, and since the date is the seed, every browser on Earth builds the exact same grid — fourteen words on a 12×12 board, diagonals on, no backwards words. The puzzle flips over at midnight your time, so "today's puzzle" always matches the date on your calendar, and the words come from the same growing pool that feeds the whole hub.

The reveal rule is the one that makes the rest mean anything: a puzzle you were shown counts for nothing, which is exactly what gives the counted ones their weight.
All of it — history, streaks, trophies — is stored in your browser, on your device. No account, no email, nothing sent anywhere. The flip side of that honesty: clear your browser data and your record goes with it, so treat a long streak with the care it deserves.
Streaks, trophies and the calendar
The streak is the heartbeat — it only asks for one solve a day. Around it, the trophy room gives the longer arcs somewhere to live: milestone badges for streaks and lifetime solves, speed awards for your fastest grids, purist badges for solving without touching the hint button — clean solves also get a little ✨ in your shared result — and a monthly trophy for the patient — solve every single day of a calendar month (archive catch-ups allowed) and the month goes gold once it ends. The calendar below the grid is both scoreboard and rescue: a month of gold squares is oddly satisfying to look at, and any gap in it is one click from being filled.
Solving for speed
Daily solvers chase the clock, and a 12×12 rewards a routine.
- Read the list before the grid Ten seconds up front beats re-reading it mid-hunt, and your eye will snag on the rare letters — Q, X, J, Z — that you can chase immediately.
- Clear the short words early Four-letter words vanish into a busy grid once it's covered in highlighting. Take them while the board is still clean.
- Diagonals only slope one way The daily never runs words backwards, so a diagonal can only lead away from its first letter. Check down-right and down-left, then move on — you've just halved the work.
- Every find is a clue to the next The generator packs words together on purpose, so shared letters are common. When two words cross, finding one has quietly shown you where to look for the other.
